Overview
Suppliers Day Event for the Storage at Scale Innovation Programme

The Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) and the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) will be running a Suppliers Day Event for the Storage at Scale Innovation Programme on the 4th March in London. This event will promote the new £20m Grant competition which will support the demonstration of large scale energy storage technologies in the UK. The programme forms part of the Government commitment to the Smart Systems and Flexibility Plan to facilitate the decarbonisation of industry, power, heat and transport.

Competition Details: The Government is committing up to £20m from 2019 to 2021 to support innovative demonstrations of large scale energy storage technologies. This grant competition will support up to 3 demonstration projects with build completion by March 2021 and operational testing to be completed December 2021.

What we are looking for: BEIS are looking for innovative and replicable solutions which could provide a market competitive alternative to conventional commercial large scale energy storage technologies (i.e. Pumped-Hydro and Batteries, such as, Lithium Ion, Lead acid or Sodium-Sulphur). This competition is open to projects at a technology readiness level of 6 or above, which could result in lower capital or operating costs to the traditional storage technologies, or improved capacity, sustainability and response rates at a comparable cost.

BEIS are interested in a range of electrical energy storage technologies with a target minimum output power of 30MW or minimum capacity of 50MWh. Power-to-X technologies (e.g. power-to-gas) with a target minimum input power of 5MW are also within scope of the competition.

Agenda: This event will provide details of the grant call followed by Q&A sessions. Investors, innovators, supply chain providers and consumers are all welcome to attend. Stakeholders at the event will be invited to engage in a brokering and networking event to stimulate discussions about potential collaborations. BEIS officials will be available to address queries on the new programme.

Pitches: We welcome pitches from innovators (solution providers) and supply chain/service providers, as well as from consumers (end users) who may have project opportunities. If this is of interest, please select this option on the registration form and you will be sent more information closer to the event.

Registration: A maximum of 2 delegates per organisation will be permitted.

Not able to attend? The scope and competition process presentations will be available via webcast and you can register to join this section of the day online here.
