B4I is a programme run by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) to support UK industry to overcome challenging product, manufacturing or process performance and to boost productivity.

KTN is working with STFC and the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) to organise an industry briefing focussed on the chemical and process industry. Registrations are now being taken for the event on Wednesday 17 October at CIP Wilton Centre in Redcar.

STFC is a multidisciplinary research organisation and operates large-scale national laboratories with key experimental and computational capabilities relevant to the chemical industry.  B4I gives industries access to unique laboratories and the ability to engage with world class researchers, allowing them to develop projects that address specific challenges and help participants make a step-change to their business.  Full details of scope, eligibility and the B4I application process are available here.

STFC’s capabilities include:

  • understanding the mechanisms of chemical and biological synthesis
  • characterising the properties of products and intermediates
  • studying production processes, including catalytic systems
  • investigating the structure, properties and effects of formulated products, such as coatings and sealants, cleaning products, pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals
  • interpreting large datasets to drive decision making (AI knowledge base)

The industry briefing event will be of interest to companies who need to overcome challenging problems that restrict their potential productivity and competitiveness.  By attending the event, delegates will be able to discuss their challenges with world leading scientists, understand how to access leading edge research infrastructure, hear about government strategies, Grand Challenges and funding opportunities for the chemical and process industries and be able to network with other relevant companies.  A facility tour of CPI’s Wilton facilities is also available.
