CENSIS Technology Summit, 8 November, Glasgow

Posted on: 18/10/2018

The fifth CENSIS Technology Summit will be held on 8 November at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow.

CENSIS is Scotland’s centre of excellence for sensor and imaging systems and the Internet of Things and its summit, now in its fifth year, brings delegates together for a day of presentations, exhibitions, discussion and networking.  The event also includes a large exhibition area, with demonstrations from technology providers and near-to-market academic research groups.

Already a fixture on the Scottish tech scene and fast becoming an event of national importance for sensor systems and IoT, over 500 people have already registered and the exhibition space is sold out.

The event is free to attend and the day includes presentations on IoT business models, cybersecurity (the speaker will be from the National Cyber Security Centre, a part of GCHQ), Industry 4.0, autonomic and connected vehicles, case studies and an exploration of how sensing, AI and IoT can help prevent crime detection and identify security threats with word forensics experts Prof Niamh Nic Daeid of the Leverhulme Centre for Forensic Science.

The keynote will be given by Hugo Fiennes, CEO of Electric Imp.  Hugo led the hardware team at Apple for the first four generations of the iPhone, before moving to Nest where he helped to build the Nest thermostat.  It was during his time at Nest that Hugo realised connected devices were going to change the world for the better, but only if they were secure, maintainable, and flexible, and so Electric Imp was born.

Hugo will also be delivering an IoT masterclass the following day on 9 November: places are limited so if you are interested, sign up now.

The event chair is Melinda Matthews Clarkson, CEO of CodeClan, Scotland’s digital skills academy and the opening address will be given by Ivan McKee MSP, Minister for Trade, Investment and Innovation.
