KTN’s panel session at the Wearable Technology Show will look at the challenges and opportunities of launching a wearable product

 

KTN will be at this year’s Wearable Technology Show at the Business Design Centre in London from 12-13 March and on 12 March will be hosting a panel session entitled “Emerging wearable technology: market trends and future opportunities”.  Hosted by Monika Dunkel, Knowledge Transfer Manager for Emerging Technologies and Industries, this session will take place at 11.20am on the Wearable Stage and will look at the challenges and opportunities of launching a wearable product in the UK.

Taking part in the panel session discussion will be Simon Julier of KIT-AR, Tommy Williams of Wearable Link, Ravinder Dahiya of the University of Glasgow and Alec Creighton of Bodytrak.

Simon Julier, a reader at University College London, helped to developed one of the most widely used algorithms for estimation (the unscented Kalman filter) and extensively worked on filtering and estimation when the full dependency structure is not known (covariance intersection). He has worked extensively in low-level estimation, mapping and tracking as well as high-level augmented reality and user interfaces.

Tommy Williams is the founder and CEO of Wearable Link which specialises in the development of wearable sensor, connectivity and analytics systems for Sports, leisure and safety sectors.

Ravinder Dahiya, Professor of Electronics and Nanoengineering and EPSRC Research Fellow in the School of Engineering, University of Glasgow. He is the director of Electronic Systems Design Centre and the leader of Bendable Electronics and Sensing Technologies (BEST) group. His research interests include Flexible and Printable Electronics, Electronic Skin, Robotic Tactile System, Micro/Macro-electronics and Wearable Systems.

Alec Creighton is Head of Business Development for Bodytrak®, a company that exploits the only body site from which all vital signs can be measured. From one small non-invasive, in-ear device, key vital sign parameters including core body temperature, heart rate, VO2 and motion (including fall detection) are measured continuously and sent in real-time to a powerful cloud-based analytics platform. The platform utilises proprietary algorithms and machine learning libraries to provide health and wellbeing alerts via a simple and configurable user interface, in order to enable early intervention to improve outcomes and reduce injury.

KTN will also be showcasing ten cutting-edge companies on stand F1: they are all emerging technology companies who have been handpicked from the KTN network. Together they will showcase an exciting array of wearable technologies including a wearable glove that can detect and measure joint stiffness; an AI-enabled and cloud-connected wearable neurotechnology platform that translates brainwaves into control signals; wearable technology that fits into existing VR headsets and enables facial expressions, heart rate and indicators of emotional intent to be captured; ultra-thin, flexible batteries for use in wearable technologies; and a smart mobile device to allow people with disabilities to perform rehabilitation at home.

There will be a KTN representatives at our stand located at F1 for one-to-one meetings to discuss how KTN can help your business access funding and connect you to other businesses or research organisations to help your innovation develop and grow.

Thisis the largest event for anyone working in or around wearables and augmented reality. Over 6,000 attendees and 300 speakers will come together to exchange views, network and do business at the show.
