KTN’s innovation eXchange site has announced its Nuclear strand – attend the launch event in Manchester on 1 May to find out more

KTN is launching the Nuclear strand, NUiX, of the KTN-innovation eXchange, KTN-iX, at an event on 1 May at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.

KTN-iX is an online platform that promotes innovation transfer, matching real industry challenges from large companies (Tier 1 and 2) to organisations, often from other sectors, who have innovative technology and can facilitate faster development of novel solutions to those challenges.  Innovators get the opportunity to work with large corporates on a commercial basis via a simple submission of their ideas. The challenge owner selects the ideas that are of best fit for solving their challenge and then looks to collaborate on a commercial basis.

Challenges on the platform are in one of three sectors – Offshore Wind, Energy Systems and Nuclear.  This event will see the launch of the Nuclear strand of the platform, NUiX, with presentations from EDF Energy, Wood, Nuvia and Sellafield who will outline the challenges they are posting on the platform.

All challenges will be aligned to the Nuclear Sector Deal and will cover nuclear new build, existing generation and decommissioning.  Current challenges on NUiX include:
·      The Field Assessment of Granular Materials
·      Reducing the Amount of Reagent to Clean Pipes and Vessels
·      Removing Residues from Inside Pipes and Vessels
·      Detecting Residual Liquor and Sludges in Pipework and Vessels
·      Disposal of Contaminated Oils
·      Seeing and Recording Alpha Radiation at a Distance
·      Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Interrogating Regulatory Documents
·      Novel Detectors for Characterisation During Decommissioning

The solution to challenges could come from sectors as diverse as defence and security, oil and gas, water, healthcare, ceramics technology or sensors – the transfer of skills and knowledge from other sectors is a key driver for the platform.

Attendance at the launch event will allow end-users from the nuclear sector to promote their challenges to a wide audience of potential solution providers from inside and outside their sector.  This is a great opportunity for innovators to network with some of the major players from the nuclear sector.

The day will also feature a showcase of technologies and projects that have been funded by Innovate UK and the Sellafield Game Changers programme.  Larger nuclear organisations will also be able to hear elevator pitches and network with innovative organisations who are promoting their potential technology solutions.

Whether you are a large company with technical challenges wanting to learn more about innovative technologies in the sector, or an organisation with a radical technology that may be needed by global players and looking for new business opportunities, please register your interest here.
