The Women in Innovation: Building Success events get off to a fantastic start in Cardiff
KTN and Innovate UK’s series of Women in Innovation: Building Success events got off to a fantastic start in Cardiff at the beginning of November.
Over 100 delegates, exhibitors and speakers came together at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff for the first Women in Innovation: Building Success event. The events are being run alongside Innovate UK’s second Women in Innovation competition.

Attendees started the day by hearing an inspiring talk from Professor Hilary Lappin-Scott (OBE), Senior Pro-Vice Chancellor at Swansea University, who is a fierce advocate for Women in STEM. Watch Hilary’s TEDx Talk on Why we need more girls/women in STEM Careers here.
Jacqui Murray, Deputy Director of Faraday Battery Challenge at Innovate UK, dispelled gender clich√©s in her talk, Is it okay to cry? Jacqui encouraged delegates to embrace their flaws; ‘Flawsome (adj) an individual who embraces their “flaws” and know they are awesome regardless.’
The closing panel session saw speakers championing innovation in a variety of industries including construction, manufacturing and social enterprise. Panellist Jenna Bowen, Women in Innovation 2016 award winner, furthermore gave advice to attendees about what makes a great grant application during the Grant Writing Masterclass. Attendees also took part in Market Validation, Innovation Canvas and Investor Readiness workshops.
