We are already halfway through the Wales Festival of Innovation! As week one draws to a close here are some of the highlights of the festival so far.

This week saw 39 events being run across Wales showcasing innovation in numerous industries from cybersecurity to food technology.

The festival kicked off with Technovate, an interactive showcase of local academic and business organisations eager to engage with inquisitive minds. Hosted at Techniquest in Cardiff, exhibitors included FabLab Cardiff with their 3D printers, IPO Education Foundation using their karaoke shower to highlight the importance of music copywriting, and Wales Gene Park making DNA bracelets. Furthermore, Renew Wales and Plastics Cardiff launched their pedal powered plastic recycling machine, see it in action below.

Another event to take centre stage was Grub Kitchen’s unique pop-up experience at Celtic Manor. In celebration of National Insect Week, chefs Andy Holcroft and Dr Sarah Beynon delighted dinners with an array of insect-based dishes and cocktail. Their aim is to champion bugs as a suitable food source.
